Health Benefits of Butterfly Pea Flower Tea

Butterfly pea flower (also called blue tea) has been used in herbal medicine for centuries. Here are a few of its amazing benefits:

  • Antioxidant-rich – Packed with anthocyanins, which help protect your cells from free radicals and everyday stress.
  • Supports heart health – May improve circulation and reduce inflammation in the body.
  • Balances blood sugar – Early studies suggest it may help stabilize glucose levels.
  • Caffeine-free & calming – Perfect for both kids and adults, any time of day.

With its gorgeous color and health perks, butterfly pea flower tea is the perfect base for this refreshing lemonade.

Fairy Lemonade Recipe (Butterfly Pea Flower Lemonade)

Ingredients (per serving):

  • 2–3 dried butterfly pea flowers
  • 8 oz hot water
  • Fresh lemon juice (to taste)
  • 1–2 tsp sweetener (honey, sugar, agave, or your choice)
  • Ice cubes (optional, for iced lemonade tea)

You’ll also need: A heatproof mug, cup or glass tea pot

Method:

  1. Heat the water – Bring water almost to a boil. Avoid fully boiling, as it can scorch the delicate petals.
  2. Steep the flowers – Place petals directly in your cup or in a tea strainer/infuser. Pour hot water over them and steep for 4–7 minutes, until the liquid turns a deep sapphire blue.
Tip: Watching the color infuse is magical! Try a time-lapse or invite your kids to watch.
  3. Remove petals – If storing for later, take them out after steeping to prevent bitterness or mold.
  4. Sweeten – Stir in your favorite sweetener while the tea is warm so it dissolves smoothly.
  5. Add lemon juice – Squeeze in fresh lemon juice and watch the blue tea instantly transform into purple, then pink.

Serving Suggestions

  • Warm Fairy Lemonade – Perfect for cozy evenings, sip it hot with honey and lemon for a soothing herbal tea.
  • Iced Fairy Lemonade – Chill in the fridge, pour over ice, then add lemon just before serving for a refreshing, show-stopping summer drink.

✨ Fairy Lemonade is more than a recipe—it’s a little piece of everyday magic. Whether you call it butterfly pea flower lemonade, blue tea, or simply color-changing tea, this enchanting herbal drink is sure to delight kids and adults alike.
